PLANNING A WEB SITE

  1. Define the Audience

  2. Create a purpose statement - "what the site will do."
    • The subject area
    • Audience ID
    • Level of detail to present
    • Users expected benefit or response

  3. Objective Statement - "Info that will do it."
    • Clarify specific outcomes and info that implement the "purpose"
    • Plan for the possibilities of changes and expansion.

  4. Domain Info - Info and knowledge of the subject area on & offline.
    • Define domain info necessary
    • Plan for acquisition of info.
    • Plan to update & maintain info.

  5. Web Specification - Refinement of Objective statement.
(More specific adding layer of constraints or other requirements.)
    • Acts as a guide book for designers & implementers who create the files of the site.
    • Completely ID all resources - Links, Forms, Imaps, & Sound.
    • State limits of the site. (Frames? Forms? Graphics?)
    • Anticipate site presentation.
      • Generate possibilities for presentation - Example pages, Imaps, forms...
      • Plan work necessary to implement site according to specs.
      • Create & Maintain pool of generic components (Layouts, forms, style sheets, templates.)
      • Create mockup of site based on initial specs (quick from generic components, will offer prototype to use w/process.)
